Jodhpur – The Sun City or Blue City located in the Rajasthan State of India that takes away the rejoicing of all the travelers. As everyone knows Rajasthan is famous for its rich heritage, Palaces, Forts, unique culture, bustling cities, and shopping, Jodhpur is also not exceptional. In fact, it is the 2nd largest city of Rajasthan and the 10th most popular tourist destination in the world. Yes, you hear it Right!!!! Here is my pick for the Best Places to visit in Jodhpur in 2 days:
Day 1 of 2 Days Jodhpur itinerary:
1.Visit to Mehran Fort
The most exquisite site in Jodhpur, the Mehrangarh fort is one of the Best Places to visit in Jodhpur.It is one of the largest forts in India built by Rao Jodha stands on a perpendicular Cliff in Jodhpur city. It is the most impressive architecture in India. At the entrance of the Fort, there is Chhatri (cenotaphs) of Kirat Singh Soda, a soldier who fell on the spot defending the Mehrangarh fort.
There is a total of 7 gates and a museum inside the Mehrangarh fort. There are Royal rooms, paintings and Palanquins used for transportation of Royal ladies, Phool Mahal, Shish Mahal, and lot of Balconies. My favorite was the Phool Mahal and the Shish Mahal. The ceiling is in gold filigree and mirror, with its delicate colors, golden sheen, stained glass windows, and screens; it is undoubtedly the grandest room in Mehrangarh fort.
After exploring the fort, take a walk through Chamunda Devi temple beside the fort complex where you can have a panoramic view of Jodhpur City and one cannot take eyes off from it. You can get the idea of why it is known as the Blue city.
Fort VisitTimings: 9.00 am to 5.00 am
Entry Fees: INR 100/Person for Indian nationals and INR 600/person for foreign nationals including audio Guide.
Rahee’s suggestion: wake up early and enter the fort by 9.00 am to beat the crowd. Entire fort complex exploration will take approx. 3 hours. Prefer to stay near the Clock tower area which is just walking distance from the Mehrangarh fort complex.

2. Pass by Jaswant Thada
After exploring the fort complex, stop at Jaswant Thada which is the cenotaph of King Jaswant Singh built by his son King Sardar Singh. It is made with intricately carved sheets of marble and displays portraits of the rulers and Maharajas of Jodhpur.
Besides the memorial, there is a lake and garden and one can find peace and serenity in the bustling city. Besides the monument, there is Rao Jodha National Park which is a paradise for bird watchers. The sightseeing in Jodhpur is all about architecture, one shouldn’t miss Jaswant Thada!
Timings: 9 am to 5 pm
Entry fees: INR 30 for Indian Nationals
Rahee’s suggestion: Visit it after exploring Mehran fort as it is on the way back to the Fort.
3. Savour Delicious Makhaniya Lassi at Mishrilal Hotel
Rajasthan is famous for its sweet dishes and trip to Jodhpur is incomplete without testing Makhaniya Lassi at Mishrilal located at famous clock tower area. This shop is recognized by all World Guide Publication (Lonely Planet) and running since 1927.It is one of the must do things to do in Jodhpur.
Sweet Lassi is made with curd, sugar, saffron, cream and topping with some butter. This drink is famous with Punjabi Community in India as well.

4. Satiate your taste buds at Janta Sweet Home
India is famous for its street food and Jodhpur is a part of it. The Janta Sweet home offers sweet and snacks but one must try its famous Jodhpuri Mirchi vada and pyaazz kachori here. But mouth-watering snacks is incomplete without some sweets, try Ghevar , one of famous Rajasthani sweet. This Place is must eat Places in Jodhpur.
Travel tips: Plate of Mirchi Vada and Kachori will cost you INR 40 and 100 gms of Ghevar can cost you INR 45.
5. Admire the Night View of MehranGarh Fort.
This is one of the Top thing to do in Jodhpur at night. In evening, you can stroll near clock tower area and can admire the night view of mighty Mehrangarh fort from any of terrace restaurant in clock tower area or just you can admire the view from Clock Tower. It is worth to visit once. This is one of the Places to visit at Night during your 2 days in Jodhpur.
Day 2 of Jodhpur itinerary:
1.Start your Day by Exploring Umaid Bhavan Palace.
Another grand palace of Rajasthan, which is world’s largest private residence named after the King Umaid Singh set in area of 26 acres is . The Palace is divided into three parts – the residence of the royal family, and a Museum focusing on the 20th century history of the Jodhpur Royal Family and luxurious Taj hotel. The palace is magnificent in its lavish proportions with Durbar Hall for meeting people, exclusive meeting Hall, dining hall, a ball room, library and paintings along passages. It is located few Kms from Jodhpur City, it can be best places to visit in and around jodhpur.
Entry fees: INR 15 for Indian Nationals and INR 60 for foreign Nationals.
Rahee’s tip: After exploring the palace, take look at the royal vintage cars collection in front of the Palace. You will also feel Royale!!!
2.Skip the tourist Circuit and Go Offbeat to Visit Mandore Garden.
Mandore has located approx 9 km from Jodhpur city center and it is marvel of architecture and art and you must include as one of the top Places to visit near Jodhpur as part of your 2 days in Jodhpur itinerary. It was the capital of Marwar before the foundation of Jodhpur. It also remained the crematorium of the royal house of Jodhpur and Cenotaphs of all important rulers can be seen here. It also has collections of temples, memorials, and major attraction here is Chhatri of King Ajit Singh. Mandore Garden is one of the best places to visit in Jodhpur for architecture Lovers.

Rahee’s Suggestion: If you are using public transportation, it will cost you INR Rs 100 by auto/Rs 10 by public bus to reach here from Jodhpur city centre.
3.Visit to Toorji Ka Jhalara
Toorji Ka Jhalara is located near Laykan Maholla area near the Clock tower. It is a steepwell said to as be old as 6th Century AD. Before 1996, steep wells were source of water for Jodhpur locals. I always wanted to see steep well, and it was my first one. I loved the architecture and steps here. This stepwell is one of the Places of interest in Jodhpur.

4.Try Tasty Rajasthani Thali.
I am Foodie by nature and I love to eat local dishes. The trip to Jodhpur remains incomplete without eating the famous Rajasthani thali. If you are looking for authentic places to eat in Jodhpur, try the Thali at a famous Gypsy restaurant in the Sardarpura area.
And if you are craving for good Indian food during your stay at Jodhpur, eat the Dhosa, Puri Sabji and Paratha etc at Priya Restaurant at Nai sadak area (Sojti gate, just opposite of Janta Sweet Home)
Travel Tips: 1 plate of Thali at Gypsy restaurant will cost you INR 200 approx.
And eating at Priya restaurant may cost you approx. INR 100-150/Person for lunch or dinner.
Rahee’s Suggestion: I loved all the dishes at Priya Restaurant very much, especially Dhosas and Puri Bhaji.
5.Shopping in the local Markets.
Any trip is incomplete without shopping in Rajasthan, especially for girls. Visit the local handicraft market and Bazaars near Clock Tower Area. Here you can buy everything from shoes, handicraft items, bangles, bags, clothes and one can enjoy the local market feel as it is so colorful.
Rahee’s Suggestion: Go shopping at Nai Sadak area shops which starts from Sojti Gate to the road leading to Clock Tower. There is National Handloom Corporation beside the Janta Sweet Home where you can purchase the stuff at fixed price. I bought a beautiful handicraft Bag from Blue Bohemians shop which is just right of Clock tower Gate.
6.That Blue House Hunting
If still you are craving for some more, find that blue houses for some memories of your trip. You can easily find the blue hues and blue painted houses in the old town area or head to Navchokiya where you can capture the colors which will take you back in the ancient era. As the name suggests Blue City- this seems one of the interesting Places to visit in Jodhpur.
Stay in Jodhpur:
We had stayed at Gauri Heritage Haveli, a guest house near the clock tower, centrally located from all the sightseeing attractions. One can easily walk to the Mehran garh fort and can reach other attractions by auto/bus.
Cost: It can cost you approx INR 990/night for 2 people.
Jodhpur Local Transportation:
Public Transportation is a good option for visiting sightseeing places if you are on a budget, otherwise one can hire a Taxi for local sightseeing.
Places to Visit near Jodhpur:
If you have more time, you can visit many Places near Jodhpur as a day trip. You can visit Osian village (66-70 km) which is known as ‘Khajuraho of Rajasthan’ and famous for its Jain Temples. You can also stay in Desert Camp and can enjoy the sand dunes here in the Thar Desert.
